Dr. Chinnapan Baskar | Biography
Dr. Chinnappan Baskar is Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Chemistry, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, India. He is Visiting Professor, Pattimura University, Ambon, Indonesia; Editor-in-Chief, Encyclopedia of Green Materials, Springer Nature, Singapore (2024); Handbook of Solid Waste Management. Sustainability through Circular Economy, Springer Nature, Singapore (2022).
Dr. Baskar has worked as Director, Himalayiya University (now Sparsh Himalaya University), Dehradun; Director, Research and Development Center, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad; Director (Officiating), THDC Institute of Hydropower Engineering and Technology Tehri, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, India; Brain Korean 21 (BK21) Research Professor, Department of Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology, and Co-researcher in Energy and Environmental Fusion Technology Center, Myongji University, South Korea; Director (Academic Affairs), Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions, Dehradun, Uttarakhand; Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Lovely Professional University, Punjab, India. Dr. Baskar received PhD in Organic and Materials Chemistry from National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore and M. Sc Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.
Dr. Baskar research interests include Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Conducting Polymers, Green Chemistry and Engineering, Ionic Liquids, Biomass Conversion, Biodegradable Polymers, Green Materials, Circular Economy, Solid Waste Management, Sustainable Development Goals, and Wearable Electronics and Sensors. He has published several research papers in reputed international journals with high impact factors and citation and conference proceedings. He has one Korean Patent and Singapore Patent on his credit. He was invited to attend and deliver lectures/seminars in international and national conferences & workshops, and faculty development programs. He has been a Chief Guest, Session Chairman, Advisory Committee, Scientific Committee, and Convener for many national and international conferences and workshops.
Dr. Baskar serves on Chairperson of Board of Studies (BOS) in the Department of Chemistry, Central University of Kashmir; Member of BOS in the Department of Chemistry, Islamic University of Sciences & Technology, Awantipura, Jammu and Kashmir. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board member and referee for many international chemistry, materials science, biotechnology and energy journals; and referee for Springer Nature Book Proposals. He was a member of Research and Development Committee (RDC) for up-to-date progress of PhD Students in Chemistry at Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. He has been the examiner for PhD & M. Phil thesis at various universities and institutes. He has served as an external member of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in universities.
Dr. Baskar has been instrumental in designing and development of curriculum, structure, pedagogy and scheme of M. Sc. Chemistry (Regular), M. Sc. Chemistry (Honors), M. Phil Chemistry programs, and Chemistry course for UG programs (B. Tech & B. Sc. Biotechnology), Green Chemistry and Engineering, Environment Education, and Research Methodology course for M.S/PhD (Integrated) program. He has also served as member for Board of Studies for several of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, biotechnology, hydropower engineering and renewable energy programs. He was a member of subject expert for faculty recruitments, post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, and lab technicians.
Dr. Baskar has a great passion for teaching. He taught various courses in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Retro-synthesis, Green Chemistry and Engineering, Stereochemistry, Research Methodology; Biomass Conversion for M. Sc., M. Phil, Integrated MS-PhD, PhD; and General Chemistry and Engineering Chemistry for UG students. He has received the “Teaching Excellence Award” from THDC-IHET. He has received the Distinguished Academician Award from Pentagram Research Center (P) Ltd, India and award for “Excellent Institute for Promoting Hydropower in Uttarakhand” in 2nd National Uttarakhand Education Summit & Awards 2015 by CMAI Association of India.
He was the Editor of Biomass Conversion: The Interface of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Materials Science (Springer-Verlag, 2012); author of Engineering Chemistry text book (Wiley India, 2012); co-author of Stereochemistry text book (Narosa Publishing House, Indian Edition, 2014 and Alpha Science International Ltd, United Kingdom, 2014), and the co-author of Systematic Nomenclature of Organic Compounds text book (IK International Publishers, Delhi, 2015; Dreamtech Press and Wiley India, 2019). He was an Editor-in-Chief, Analytical Chemistry Letters, a journal of Taylor & Francis Groups, United Kingdom (2020-2021).
Dr. Baskar has transited in many countries including Singapore, USA, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand.
Dr. Baskar is Author / Managing Trustee / President of YSB Foundation, Public Charitable Trust, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
