Dr. Chinnapan Baskar

A Biography

Dr. Chinnappan Baskar is an author of YSB Foundation. He is a visiting Professor, Pattimura University, Ambon, Indonesia. He was the founding Director of Research and Development Center and Professor of Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has received M. Sc. Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and PhD in Organic and Materials Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He was a former Director (Officiating) of THDC Institute of Hydropower Engineering and Technology Tehri (THDC-IHET), Constituent Institute of Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, India.

He has worked as Brain Korean 21 (BK21) Research Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology, Myongji University, South Korea and Co-researcher in Energy and Environmental Fusion Technology Center, Myongji University; Director (Academic Affairs), Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions, Dehradun, Uttarakhand; Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Lovely Professional University, Punjab. Dr. Baskar has transited in many countries including Singapore, USA, Japan, Canada, Malaysia, South Korea, and Indonesia.

Dr. Baskar research interests include Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Conducting Polymers, Green Chemistry and Engineering, Ionic Liquids, Poly(ionic) Liquids, Radiation Resistant Polymers, Biomass Conversion: Biofuels, Fine-chemicals, Biopolymers, Biodegradable Polymers, Bioplastics, Biofibers, Nanofibers, Nanocomposites, Smart functional Materials, Wearable / Flexible Electronics, Sensors, Smart Textiles, e-Skin, and Circular Economy on Solid Waste Management. He has published several research papers in reputed international journals with high impact factors and citation and conference proceedings. He has one Korean Patent on his credit. He was invited to attend and deliver lectures/seminars in international and national conferences & workshops, and faculty development programs. He has been a Chief Guest, Session Chairman, Advisory Committee, Scientific Committee, and Convener for many national and international conferences and workshops. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board member and referee for many international chemistry, materials science, biotechnology and energy journals. He was a member of Research and Development Committee (RDC) for up-to-date progress of PhD Students in Chemistry at Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.

He has been the examiner for PhD & M. Phil thesis at various universities and institutes. He has served as an external member of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in Universities. Dr. Baskar has been instrumental in designing and development of curriculum, structure, pedagogy and scheme of M. Sc. Chemistry (Regular), M. Sc. Chemistry (Honors), M. Phil Chemistry programs, and Chemistry course for UG programs (B. Tech & B. Sc. Biotechnology), Green Chemistry and Research Methodology course for M.S/PhD (Integrated) program. He has also served as member for Board of Studies for several of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, biotechnology, hydropower engineering and renewable energy programs. He was a member of subject expert for faculty recruitments, post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, and lab technicians.

Dr. Baskar has a great passion for teaching. He taught various courses in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Retro-synthesis, Green Chemistry and Technology, Stereochemistry, Research Methodology, General Chemistry / Engineering Chemistry for M. Sc., M. Phil, M. S-PhD and UG students. He has received the “Teaching Excellence Award” from THDC-IHET. Dr. Baskar is currently guiding three PhD students in the areas of green chemistry and engineering for chemical and biomass conversion. He has guided 3 postdocs; One PhD; and 6 PhD/MS-PhD (Integrated) in the areas of bioenergy, biofuels production and polymeric membranes. He has supervised 11 M. Phil students and 11   M. Sc. Regular/Honors Students in the areas of Green Chemical Transformations and Biodiesel Production. He has received the Distinguished Academician Award from Pentagram Research Center (P) Ltd, India and award for “Excellent Institute for Promoting Hydropower in Uttarakhand” in 2nd National Uttarakhand Education Summit & Awards 2015 by CMAI Association of India.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of Encyclopedia of Green Materials (Springer Nature, new project, 2021); Handbook of Solid Waste Management (Springer Nature, 2021); Editor of Biomass Conversion: The Interface of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Materials Science (Springer-Verlag, 2012; this book is rated as one of the timely-demanded reference book and it was one of the top 25% most downloaded ebooks in the relevant Springer book collection in 2012); author of Engineering Chemistry text book (Wiley India, 2012); co-author of Stereochemistry text book (Narosa Publishing House, Indian Edition, 2014 and Alpha Science International Ltd, United Kingdom, Foreign Edition, 2014), and the co-author of Systematic Nomenclature of Organic Compounds text book (IK International Publishers, Delhi, 2015).
